The European Space Agency is organising the NEST InSAR course, a 2 day devoted course about the Next ESA SAR Toolbox (NEST) and its InSAR capability.
The Course will be hosted in Frascati, Italy on 26-27 September 2011, just after the Fringe 2011 workshop.

The objective of NEST InSAR course is to demonstrate the NEST software functionalities and to give participants the opportunity to gain an extensive and hands-on experience with SAR/InSAR algorithms and real data processing.

Main Topics

  • Theoretical principles of InSAR, covering the basics, potential and limitations of satellite radar interferometry.
  • InSAR processing algorithms, covering computational aspects and main principles of InSAR processing algorithms with their explanation and demonstration in NEST. Specifically:
    • InSAR coregistration and resampling/warping
    • interferogram formation
    • azimuth and range filtering
    • estimation and subtraction of the flat earth phase
    • computation and subtraction of the topographic phase
    • phase filtering
    • coherence estimation
    • etc.
  • Applications and case studies that will be covered in detail:
    • DEM retrieval
    • Geophysical applications
    • Running an InSAR project in NEST: from ordering SLC data to added value products - construction and tailoring of NEST processing flow.

Post graduate, PhD students, post doctoral research scientists and users from European countries and Canada(*) interested in InSAR techiques are invited to attend the 2 day course.

(*)All other countries are also welcome to apply and participate to the course subject to space availability.

The number of participants to the training is limited to 60.

The deadline for application is 8 July 2011. Successful applicants will be informed via e-mail by mid of July 2011.

Please click here to download the application form (when opening the doc, please enable macros).

When completed please send your applications to including as subject "Application for the NEST InSAR Course, 26-27 September 2011".

It is required to bring a personal laptop to employ during the course (ESA will not provide any PC).

Minimum Hardware Requirements

  • 4 Gb
  • 20 Gb hard disk space to store processed data
  • OS: Windows, Linux, Mac

No participation fee will be charged for the training, but participants will be expected to meet their own accommodation, travel and subsistence costs.
