ERS Cyclone tracking activities
The data used for the cyclone tracking activities, are ERS2 scatterometer data in orbit since
April 1995.
From this information are extracted:
wind field (speed and direction, text format)
scatterometer data (binary format)
geolocalization of cyclone centre, maximum wind speed
contour of wind speeds (image)
backscatter of the cyclone (image)
The cyclones are detected from data automatically and are put on the web
after some quality checks.
(The data are processed every 6 hours.)
The activities of cyclone tracking have been interrupted at the end of
september 2001.
Possibly they will resume at the end of October 2002.
