Mario is Mexican. He has a mathematical educational background (PhD level)
Has worked on software and hardware development for satellite image processing at IBM Research Centers in Mexico, USA and Europe.
Mario joined the United Nations Environment Programme, the Global Resources Information Database (GRID) working both in Geneva, Switzerland and Nairobi, Kenya assisting developing countries on the use of satellite images as applied for their State of the Environment reporting.
Since 2000 he is responsible at UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) for the management of a network of space agencies, space research institutes and the space private sector working under the framework of the ´ESA - UNESCO Open Initiative on the use of space technologies to support the World Heritage Convention´.
